Driver killed after car rams into toll booth near Lekir


IPOH: An unidentified motorist died after the car hit a toll booth and burst into flames on the West Coast Expressway (WCE) near Lekir.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said the incident happened at about 11.40pm on Saturday (Oct 14) at the south-bound lane of the expressway.

He said initial investigation revealed that the driver was driving from Changkat Cermin heading towards Teluk Intan direction.

"Upon reaching the site, the driver lost control of the vehicle, skidded, and rammed into the toll booth, and the car went up in flames.

"The victim, who has yet to be identified, died at the scene after the car went up in flames," he said in a statement Sunday (Oct 15).

He said the charred remains had been sent to the Seri Manjung hospital for a postmortem.

"Anyone with information on the incident is urged to come forward by contacting the investigation officer Insp Muhammad Asyraf Henry Philip at 016-557 2540."
